FULL BIOGRAPHY

A current Fulbright Scholar and previous cum laude graduate of Yale University, STEVEN FEIS brings to Ivy Bound a wide range of skills and experiences.

During his Fulbright grant in Milan, Italy, he has taught several high school classes about United States Government Politics and Elections in cooperation with the United States Department of State and Consulate in Milan. He has in addition presented his research on aesthetic and musicological aspects of Italian opera in several conventions in Europe, including in Berlin, Germany, where he was one of only two student Fulbright grantees from throughout European Union countries selected to give a research presentation.

Steven studied at Yale University, from which he graduated with honors after taking 44.5 credits (well over the graduation requirement of 36). His coursework included Intensive Organic Chemistry, Economics, History, Linguistics, Music History and Theory, Philosophy, Psychology, Statistics, and languages. While studying Musicology and laying the groundwork for his Fulbright research, he also completed an effective minor in the field of Cognitive Science (nine credits, including a term of research).

Steven also has a long-standing involvement with biomedical research, having published several co-authored scientific articles in peer-reviewed journals and conducted research with institutions including the National Institutes of Health (Bethesda, MD), Hôpital Érasme (Brussels), and the Yale University School of Medicine. In the field of business, Steven co-founded an Internet technology company that is currently in discussions with venture capitalists. He also served as Treasurer for two Yale University groups with annual budgets of $25k and $6k respectively.

No stranger to living abroad and foreign languages, Steven speaks Italian fluently, having lived in Italy for nearly a year and studied it previously; French proficiently, having studied it since third grade and lived in Brussels for two months; and German conversationally, having participated in the 7-week immersive Middlebury Language Schools program, from which he received a 4.0 GPA.

A passionate and successful musician, Steven has wide experience as a performer and administrator. He has sung roles in eight operas and in the Glimmerglass Opera Chorus; solos with professional choirs in New York City, Rome, Florence, Milan, and New Haven; and with a Yale a cappella group in locales ranging from Los Angeles and Texas to Washington, DC and Greece. An especially memorable occurrence was singing on the internationally televised special "Christmas in Washington" for attendees including US President George W. Bush and Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts. In addition, Steven has significant conducting experience, from the Gilbert and Sullivan opera The Mikado to the Yale Men's Chamber Singers, which he founded his sophomore year. He has studied classical piano for well over a decade, and plays harpsichord, with a particular interest in baroque performance practice. As an administrator, he has worked with institutions including the Metropolitan Opera (New York City), Glimmerglass Opera (Cooperstown, NY), and several Yale University groups.
