Ivy Bound ACT Study Group Drop-In
Need a bit of extra practice with the ACT? Then drop in to an Ivy Bound group and receive help from fantastic tutors. Our tutors cover the science and math that is not on the SAT. We also learn about the English and Reading that coincides with SAT but may be posing difficulties.
Drop-In ACT is offered in class format, but the topics are up to the participants attending for that session. All Students make use of the same materials – the Official ACT Prep Guide and Ivy Bound’s “ACT Six Pack” of recently released tests. Students can choose to stay for the whole session and follow along with the the tutor. Students may leave after getting answers and explanations to her or his particular questions.
Ivy Bound’s Drop-In ACT is similar to university or college “office hours”. Students have the option to attend as much or as little as desired. Sessions are offered for six hours each month (1.5 hours x 4 consecutive weeks).
Students who wish to have full sessions with a tutor devoted exclusively to them may engage a tutor one-on-one for six hours or more. With private tutoring the student’s agenda is paramount, and the tutors are able to change their style to suit the student’s schedule and learning needs.
Finally, students may form a “Drop-In ACT Group”. That means a few students select a regular time that they wish to have a tutor available exclusively for them. These can be classmates, teammates, or extended family members. Our work is online, so student location is irrelevant. This reduces the monthly cost, and facilitates students leaning in a group environment.
ACT Study Group Drop-In
Our drop-in is advantageous for:
1) students already in an ACT class who would like extra help.
2) students who are taking practice tests and need a review of tough questions.
3) students who need very little ACT study to reach 35 or 36 scores.
4) students who lack the time to take a full length ACT prep class.
Our “Form Your Own Drop-In” is advantageous for:
1. A group of students who’d like to study together but without outsiders.
2. Students who’d like to save money by getting a group together.
Home Study is not assigned, but the group sessions are set up to focus on questions students have had difficulty with. All students are encouraged to take practice test following these classes. Ivy Bound allows enrolled students to join its proctored ACT practice tests on weekends that month at no charge.
ACT Materials, Licensing, and Enlistment.
The ACT covers a large amount of material that students learn in high school. However, it also includes questions, topics and skills not demanded by a high school curriculum. Because the ACT is still a highly published standard, it is also highly coachable. Students that study for the ACT can see an improvement on their scores. The only question is “how much?”
Ivy Bound also trains students to prepare for the big test day. Ivy Bound allows its add-on students to join for a practice test on a subsequent day. Students can purchase a practice test package if they want to practice multiple times before their real test date.
Our ACT tutors are excellent test takers themselves, who know the ACT test inside and out. An ACT tutor is able to help you learn both the material that is on the test and the proper strategies for learning how to answer correctly. Tutoring sessions are generally split between learning how to read the ACT test and reviewing the material that students have to learn to be competent on the test.
The best part of working with a tutor is the individual attention to your progress. In full length courses, Ivy Bound tutors masterfully work with students; they learn their strengths and weaknesses and use that information to make relevant tutoring sessions. ACT tutors at Ivy Bound focus on several strategies to help students, including time management, investigation, and sorting. When working with an Ivy Bound tutor in full-length courses, we expect our students to become confident and have the skills to get the score they desire.
