Ivy Bound has high standards. In order to even get an interview with us, instructors must have scored in the 99th percentile on the SAT or ACT. Our standards don’t end there: during the interview, we gauge applicants’ ability to teach with clarity, enthusiasm, empathy, and high test knowledge. We take only the best, and that’s why Ivy Bound remains a small, highly-respected company.
We are pleased to introduce the instructors who have been selected to participate in the COACHES from Ivy Bound program:
Emily Hurtuk has been with Ivy Bound since 2007 and is one of our most experienced tutors and classroom instructors. She attended Dartmouth College before transferring to the University of Connecticut honors program and graduating summa cum laude in 1995. Emily has scored a 2400 (out of 2400) on the SAT and has experience playing competitive volleyball, softball, and track and coaching volleyball at the JV high school level. She is also an avid basketball and soccer fan. Emily has been twice named Ivy Bound “Teacher of the Year” from among 60 active tutors. Emily currently resides in Tolland, CT, and she is available to tutor within a 60-minute radius.
Jesse Tendler has been with Ivy Bound since 2006 and has tutored for over 5000 hours, helping his students raise their SAT scores by as much as 500 points. Jesse is a 2003 graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, where he earned dual degrees in Entrepreneurial Management and Marketing (from the Wharton School) and Materials Science and Engineering (from the School of Engineering and Applied Science) through the prestigious Jerome Fisher Program in Management and Technology. During high school, Jesse scored a 1590 (out of 1600) on the SAT and played tennis at the varsity level. He has also participated in competitive baseball, basketball, and soccer. Jesse’s contagious enthusiasm for education and problem solving and expertise in a wide array of learning styles make him an excellent instructor. Jesse is based in New York City, and we are pleased to make him available to groups in the New York metro area looking to maximize their scores.
Zach Belway has been with Ivy Bound since 2015, soon after graduating from Yale University. He is from Santa Barbara and was a top wrestler at San Marcos High. At Yale, Zach was a Coach and Captain of the Wrestling Team that won the New England Championships. Zach graduated with a B.S. in Environmental Engineering. Since matriculating, Zach’s favorite activities have been dance, travel, and learn new languages. In the last few years he has danced ballroom (both competitively and socially), salsa, merengue, bachata, swing, blues, and tango. He has been fortunate enough to explore 30 different countries and counting, while studying Spanish, German, and French. He spent much of 2015-16 in France, then moved to New Orleans. He works seamlessly with students via Skype.
