Hi, my name is Bix Bettwy.  SAT classes helped me improve my score by 120 points in high school, so I’m excited to help others bring their scores up!  I graduated from Yale University in May, 2008, with a B.A. in Theater Studies and started teaching with Ivy Bound soon after.  I also have an M.F.A. in Acting from Rutgers and will be starting the J.D. program at NYU School of Law starting in the Fall (2016).

Before attending Rutgers, I spent three years living in New York City, working as an actor and a tutor.  I was selected to participate in the BMI Lehman Engel Musical Theater Writing Workshop as a composer, and the year before grad school I worked as Ethan Hawke’s personal assistant.  As a student at Rutgers, I had the opportunity to teach a Basic Acting class for undergraduate students.  At law school, I intend to focus on intellectual property and entertainment law.

At Yale, I was very involved in the theatre and music scene.  I acted in, directed, and designed for over 20 productions.  I also played in a wide variety of musical ensembles, from jazz bands to rock bands to orchestras, and I served as musical director for my a cappella group.  My most valuable experience at Yale, however, was a summer program I did in Swaziland and South Africa.  My classmates and I worked with local artists to teach students about the prevention and treatment of HIV/AIDS through lectures and theatre.  It was especially challenging to teach kids that had little to no fluency in English, but it was ultimately very rewarding.

I attended high school at Patrick Henry High School in San Diego.  I was designated a National Merit Scholar, a National AP Scholar, and Valedictorian.  I scored a 1540 on the SAT (780 Math, 760 Verbal) and a 770 on the SAT II Writing.  As I mentioned above, the SAT course I took – which taught many of the same principles that are taught at Ivy Bound, but was not as rigorous – greatly helped me to improve my scores.  In addition to the SAT I, I can help with the LSAT, GMAT, GRE, ACT, the math SAT II subject tests, and several other SAT II subject and AP tests (US History, English Language and Composition, English Literature, Music Theory, and Art History).

I have always been heavily involved in music and theater. I have been doing professional theater since I was 9 years old and am a member of Actors’ Equity Association. I was selected to participate in the BMI Lehman Engel Musical Theater Writing Workshop in New York as a composer. I play the piano, clarinet, drums/percussion, and a little bit of guitar.
