About me
Mark Eastburn attended St. Mary's College of Maryland, a public honors college, as an undergraduate because of the strength of their biology program. While there, he also studied abroad for a semester in Guadalajara, Mexico, where he learned Spanish. After graduation, Mark entered the United States Peace Corps, where he served as an Agroforestry Volunteer and Volunteer Coordinator in central Panama for over two years. Upon his return, Mark accepted a job with the Princeton Public Schools, where he has been teaching ever since. While raising a family, Mark completed two master's degrees--an M.S. in Biology from Villanova University and an M.S. in Neuroscience and Education from Teachers College Columbia University. During his tenure at Princeton High School, he led two teams to national grand prizes in the Samsung Solve for Tomorrow STEM Competition, and first place in the New Jersey Student Climate Challenge. While at Riverside School, which is also in Princeton, Mark helped lead a team of students across New Jersey for the state to recognize an official reptile, which was signed into law in 2018. When not teaching or helping students prepare for college in other ways, Mark enjoys creative writing and spending time outdoors, where he continues research on invertebrate organisms--including the world's only known vegetarian spider.
