Frequently Asked Questions

How are classes structured?

All classes are live and instructor-led in a small group setting. Students get real-time instruction, guided practice, and direct feedback throughout the course.

What is included in an Ivy Bound test prep class?

Classes include expert instruction, curriculum materials, strategy training, online resources, helpline support, and proctored full-length practice tests. SAT Premier classes also include private tutoring hours.

When should students start SAT or ACT prep?

Most students benefit from starting 2 to 4 months before their target test date. That gives enough time to learn content, build strategy, and improve through practice.

Are practice tests included?

Yes. Our programs include proctored full-length practice tests and score analysis so students can measure progress and identify what to focus on next.

What score improvements can students expect?

Across our programs, students average 150+ SAT points and 3.55+ ACT points of improvement, though results vary based on baseline score, effort, and attendance.

What if I am not sure which class is right?

If you are unsure whether SAT, ACT, Essentials, or Premier is the best fit, contact us and an advisor can help you choose the right option based on goals, timeline, and current score level.

What is the Helpline?

The Helpline is a live, group Zoom session held every Wednesday night, available to Premier students during 8 months of the year. Students can join to ask homework questions, work through challenging problems, or get additional SAT or ACT preparation outside of their regular class time. It is an open, instructor-led session — students can drop in as often as they like throughout the program.

Do the 2 private tutoring hours count toward the 29 hours of instruction?

No. The 29 hours of instruction in the Premier program are entirely group class time. The 2 private tutoring hours are separate and consist of one-on-one sessions with an Ivy Bound instructor. These sessions can be scheduled at any point before the class begins or within six weeks of the class ending, giving students flexibility to use them where they will have the most impact.

What is the difference between Essentials and Premier?

Essentials is designed for students who want focused, efficient preparation covering the core content and strategies needed to improve their score. It includes 22 hours of live group instruction, 4 LIVE Practice Exams and Reviews, 25+ independent practice tests, and Ivy Bound’s essential curriculum.

Premier is Ivy Bound’s most comprehensive program, built for students who want every advantage. It includes 29 hours of live group instruction, 6 LIVE Practice Exams and Reviews, 50+ independent practice tests, the complete Ivy Bound curriculum, unlimited Helpline access, and 2 hours of private one-on-one tutoring. Premier is the right choice for students targeting top scores or those who want maximum support throughout their preparation.

Are breaks included in longer SAT and ACT classes?

Yes. Breaks are built into longer scheduled class blocks. Students are not expected to remain seated or work continuously for the entire posted time window.
