WHAT MIDDLE LEVEL STUDENTS LEARN
Build the method before adding speed
The course teaches age-appropriate content and repeatable routines for the test students in grades 5–7 will actually take.
Quantitative foundations
Fractions, decimals, percent, ratios, number properties, introductory algebra, geometry, measurement, estimation, and multi-step word problems.
Synonyms and analogies
High-frequency vocabulary, roots and word parts, synonym precision, relationship language, and elimination when a word is unfamiliar.
Reading for evidence
Main idea, stated detail, sequence, context clues, passage structure, and evidence-based inference without over-reading.
Writing sample control
A quick plan, clear direction, specific support, organized paragraphs, and a final check that fits the available time.
Pacing and guessing
Section checkpoints, when to move on, productive elimination, answer-sheet alignment, and how to protect time for solvable questions.
Error analysis
Students learn whether a miss came from content, directions, reading, calculation, elimination, or pacing—and what to change next.

Every class builds toward more accurate, more controlled test-day decisions. Your child is not simply assigned more questions; each session develops a process the student can repeat independently across math, verbal, reading, and writing tasks.

Mark has taught test preparation since 1987 and founded Ivy Bound in 2000. He lists the SSAT and ISEE among the tests he tutors—and the SSAT is his favorite K–12 course to teach.

Answers before you enroll
Who should take the Middle Level SSAT course?+
This course is for students in grades 5–7 preparing for the Middle Level SSAT. Students in grades 8–11 should use the separate Upper Level course.
When does the Middle Level class meet?+
Middle Level cohorts meet in person in Greenwich on six Mondays from 4:15–5:45 PM ET. Select the class-date range that precedes the student’s target SSAT.
How much instruction is included?+
Tuition is $475 per student and includes six 90-minute classes, for nine total instructional hours.
What subjects are covered?+
The course covers Middle Level quantitative, verbal, reading, and writing tasks, plus pacing, guessing, answer-sheet habits, error analysis, and test-day planning.
Is official SSAT registration included?+
No. Course enrollment and official SSAT registration are separate. Families should register for the appropriate test administration through the official SSAT process.
